Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva -Movie Review-

At New York Comic Con 2011 I had the honor to be one of the first people, in the United States, to be able to view the official US release of the Professor Layton movie "The Eternal Diva".

The events of the "Eternal Diva" take place after the"Specter's Flute", and 3 years before the "Diabolical Box" in the Layton time line.

Many characters of the Layton series make appearances, such as Flora Reinhold, Don Paolo, Inspector Chelmey, Constable Barton, Spring and Cogg, Stachenscarfen, Sammy Thunder, Mr. Beluga, Granny Riddleton, Babette, Claudia the Cat and Dr. Andrew Schrader.

The film starts off with Layton and Luke trying to solve the mystery of the theft of Big Ben. Layton deduces the culprit to be none other than his arch enemy Don Paolo! As you can imagine being the Layton fan I am I totally flipped out during this scene. I mean come on. It's Don Paolo!! The film then slows down to Layton and Luke listening to a recording of one of his former students, Janice. We then fly into a flash back of the case of the Eternal Diva.

One day as Layton is sitting in his study he receives an invitation aboard a luxury cruise ship from his former student Janice, to come watch her opera performance. Janice, however, has also invited the Professor to solve a mystery for her. Janice believes that a young girl named Nina is really her friend Melina. What's the catch?

Melina is dead.

Janice certainly is one of the more cuter characters in the Layton series!

The movie itself is very well done. Everything about it from the animation down to the music is extremely "Laytonesque"! The animation is super smooth and the artwork is done in the original style that the game series is.

The movie even has a few puzzles and mysteries of it's own. And yes, they are done in the Layton style of being numbered and even playing that wonderful (yet at the same time extremely annoying) puzzle theme!! I even squealed with joy while viewing the movie during said scenes....

Fly Professor! FLY!!

The movie kept me at the edge of my seat and had me guessing every possible answer to each puzzle!! I laughed, gasped, and yes even cried during the end of the movie.

The screening that Viz Media provided was quite nice! There were giveaways of the upcoming game "The Last Specter", free refreshments, sliding puzzle toys, free "Specter" shirts, and even "Layton hats for all the viewers!! It was a fantastic experience!!

The official Professor Layton and Luke Triton cosplayers!

Andrew enjoying one of the refreshments Level 5 and Viz had to offer?!

They event had a great big popcorn machine! Did I mention it was all free?!

The hilarious "Layton" hats that were given to all the viewers.

Luke, where are you looking?!

Professor Layton and The Eternal Diva will keep you on the edge of your seats and touch that puzzle loving spot of your hearts. If you're a huge fan of the series or even just a new comer I highly recommend this film!

The US release is scheduled for November 7. Which is......TOMORROW!!

So save some picarats this week and go pick up your official Viz copy of "Professor Layton and The Eternal Diva"!

Hurry and get yours, NOW!

********Don't Forget! Professor Layton and the Last Specter is also available*******

SBS KPOP Star Audition!

So as many of my friends know, on Sunday participated in the first ever SBS KPOP Star Auditions!!

It was certainly a weekend to remember~!

For those of you who don't know me my name is Eri! I was number 8 in the NYC (really New Jersey) auditions on Sunday! I live in NYC and love the KPop scene although I am still quite new to it! My favorite artist atm is G-g-g-g-Dragon! But anyway enough of introductions!

I originally applied to the SBS Kpop Star back in July or August. I was working at a maid cafe then and some of the other maids thought it fun to apply. So I did! I didnt really think much of it though since I didn't really think my application was all that good and my head is fat and round like a umkin.... September rolled around and I noticed a lot of girls saying they got in on AllKpop and on the US facebook page. I felt pretty bad. I mean even though I applied for fun, I still at least was hoping that I would get picked. And then I got my e-mail saying I passed round 1! I did like a freakin back flip across my tiny room! I was really excited and nervous at the same time because I had absolutely no clue what to do!!

As the week went on I got another e-mail with information on the second round and it's location. Although the contest said round 2 auditions would be held in NYC they were really in New Jersey. Not exactly the easiest place to get to considering all the buses in Port Authority were going crazy and running late and soooooo not even running at a decent time on the weekends! I ended up sleeping over a friend's house who actually lived about 20mins away from the audition! During the week of the audition I practiced my butt off singing and dancing. I worked on Oppa Nappa by SNSD and When I Grow Up by the Pussy Cat Dolls! My Korean isn't really good but I made sure to listen to the song and mimic the accent to the best of my abilities. For my dance I think I did fairly well! It was a really energetic song and I felt it would best display my dancing more than any other song! Be sure to pick a song that BEST show cases your talent! I don't recommend anything you don't already know. It should be something that you can either sing or dance to without thinking too much! The audition itself is pretty nerve wracking so you don't want to do something you aren't familiar with. It's just going to add on to your stress.

With my e-mail I was told to bring 5 copies of my profile picture.
Try to take a picture that shows your face well!

Yay it's me!

So I slept over my friend's house and listened to my music non stop that entire weekend! Me and Andrew woke up early the next morning and drove to the audition place!! Even though it was only around 7ish there were a ton of people lined up! I was soooo sad because I thought it would take forever to get in! Most the people on the line though were parents and "support" I realized. Even though I was halfway down the block I became contestant number 83! It was very cold out and I noticed that number 82 in front of me was wearing shorts and she had goose bumps! I felt so sad for her!! There were so many different kinds of people in line! It was really incredible!

The dance school where the auditions were taking place!
It was really exciting to see the board light up with Kpop!!

These lucky people were first in line and got interviewed!!
They might be on TV!

Don't be afraid to talk to others on the line! I did and everyone was really friendly!!

A extremely small portion of the line.

From left to right: #82,#84, #85, #87!
They were really nice and I enjoyed talking to them~!

To the back of the line!

A really cool car I saw while waiting on line!!

After a while of filling out different forms, getting my number, and waiting on the line we finally began to move inside!! As we went inside there were different cameras and lots of lights in the lobby! There was a sign that said no cameras and so since I didn't want to get in trouble I turned mine off. I signed in at this little booth near the door and took so photos against a back drop with the shows logo! I'm sure those pictures came out horrible and I pray that they aren't seen by man kind ever. They really didn't warn you or give you a heads up. It was more like "STAND THERE" -CLICK CLICK CLICK- "KAYTHNXBAI!" It was really surprising.
